Why we walk

Some places are too special to rush through. We walk to slow down, to pay attention, and to experience the bush in a more meaningful way. To reconnect people with wild Africa through deeply immersive walking trails that honor the land, the wildlife, and the spirit of true exploration.

What we’re Creating

A walking safari that is simple, real, and deeply rewarding. We aim to be one of Southern Africa’s most trusted and respected trail experiences - known for our small groups, low-impact approach, and genuine connection to the land.

DURATION

From immersive half-day safaris to three-day bush escapes, we curate a selection of exclusive, tailor-made walking journeys. Each experience is guided with expertise and enriched by evenings around the fire, offering rare time to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the wilderness at a pace that is uniquely yours.

GROUP SIZE

We welcome a maximum of 8 guests on each trail, keeping the experience intimate, personal, and truly exclusive. Whether you arrive as a couple seeking adventure, a family creating shared memories, a group of friends exploring together, a team building bonds, or an agent introducing your guests to the magic of walking safaris — every step is tailored to ensure you feel both at home and part of something extraordinary.

Along the Olifants River in the Hoedspruit area of Greater Kruger, part of the Balule Nature Reserve, Zinzi Private Game Reserve lies in an unfenced Big Five wilderness corridor — raw, sacred, and alive with untamed beauty. Here, nature sets the pace and the ancient land whispers its timeless stories to those who walk its paths.

ACCOMMODATION

Stay close to nature without giving up comfort. Our off-grid dome tents sleep two guests, with stretcher beds dressed in soft cotton bedding for both rest and privacy. The camp is equipped with flushing toilets and hot water showers, offering the perfect balance of simplicity and luxury in the heart of the bush.

Settle into simple luxury at fully equipped tented camps in remote, off-grid locations — comfortable, yet deeply connected to the wild. Dome tents are spaced for privacy, each with two stretcher beds dressed in soft cotton bedding. Mobile eco-toilets and hot bucket showers offer thoughtful comfort without compromising simplicity.

Duration

Pick between a soul-stirring 1-night escape or a deeper 2-night immersion. Both options include the guided walk, fireside evenings, and time to reconnect with nature at a pace that feels right for you. Walk your way — fast or slow, it’s your call.

Group Size

This is a trail built for real connection — with nature and with each other. Designed exclusively for private groups of 4 to 8 guests (ages 12 and up), the experience is never shared with strangers. With a dedicated guide team and no outside interruptions, it’s your own off-grid journey into the wild — intimate, immersive, and entirely yours.

Located just 28 kilometers from Hoedspruit, Zinzi Private Game Reserve is nestled within the Balule Nature Reserve, which forms part of the expansive Greater Kruger National Park open system. Set along the banks of the iconic Olifants River, the landscape is adorned with rolling granite outcrops and a rich diversity of plant species, creating a breathtaking backdrop for the abundant wildlife - including the Big Five - that roams freely.

The reserve offers an exclusive, off-the-beaten-path setting ideal for walking safaris and nature immersion. With no public roads or mass tourism, Zinzi provides a quiet, authentic bush experience -yet with the assurance of a professionally managed, high-end operation.

Each camp offers charming dome tents with two stretcher beds draped in soft luxury cotton bedding, complemented by flushing toilets and steaming hot showers — creating a seamless blend of rustic simplicity and refined comfort in the heart of the bush.

Isitini Camp

Set quietly by a waterhole where wildlife moves freely and birdcalls drift on the breeze, dome tents offer shaded seating for peaceful moments. Solar lanterns cast a gentle glow after dark, while the unfenced camp invites the wild to pass close by, creating a deep connection to nature.

Riverside Camp

Perched on a natural rise above the Olifants River, Riverside Camp offers a front-row seat to the rhythm of the water. From here, sweeping river views unfold in every direction, with hippos surfacing in the shallows and antelope pausing at the water’s edge. It’s a place to slow down, breathe deeply, and simply watch the life of the river drift by — an ever-changing wilderness theatre right from camp.

Founder and heart of the trails camp, Werner is one of Africa’s most highly-qualified trails guides with over 27 years of experience across iconic reserves in several southern African countries.

He is renowned for his deep bush knowledge, poetic interpretation of nature, and elite rifle handling, and is a respected name in the safari industry.

Werner, our head guide, sets the standard for every Zinzi Walking Safari.
With years of wilderness experience and a deep passion for the bush, he oversees the guiding team and helps shape each trail into an authentic, top-tier walking safari.
